Benefits of Top Dog Workshops
General benefits
- Completing a workshop where you learn a new skill creates a sense of achievement and builds esteem and confidence that learners can apply to other areas of learning.
- Creative workshops can help people to discover something they are good at. This is of particular value to those who are not "academic" as they often excel in "creative" skills – and areas they may otherwise not have had the chance to try before.
- Workshops encourage team building and the importance of working together. Relying on and co-operating with others is often an integral part of the workshops, though learners also get the opportunity to work alone with some skills.
- The Arts cross all barriers of culture, social background and abilities to name but a few, therefore housing the ability to relate to all. The experience we have had with our workshops has shown that the creative arts are an accessible way to relevantly connect with a vast amount of different people.
Benefits to young people
- People who otherwise don't want to learn, hate school etc. often take an interest in the creative arts, sport etc. and apply themselves to it more.
- All of our workshops are very practical which means people can get involved regardless of their level of academic learning ability. This is of particular benefit to learners below GCSE level 2.
- Creative workshops are instrumental in building character and personality of participants. Within the safe environment of the team and led by encouraging, trained workers even the shyest people can really come out of themselves. The Arts are a great medium for people to learn to express themselves; this kind of character development and confidence building is a plus to prospective employers.
- By nature and culturally it is usually the case that at least one area of the creative arts appeals to any one young person. The Arts are a relevant and resourceful way to connect with young people, in effect taking their interests and strengths and building on them.
- Each of our workshop leaders have experience of working with young people and are in the process of being police checked. Many are currently or have worked with youth work charities and organisations across the country.
