The Fashion & Design workshop leaders

Our Fashion tutor trained at the Kent Institute for Art & Design in Rochester, gaining a BTec National Diploma in Fashion Design & Clothing. She has worked as a stylist for pop bands as well as being involved in her own business selling her own unique creations to a select market. Her first-hand experience of seeing how it's easy-when-you-know-how, has made her keen to show others some of the skills she has learnt which has stocked her up with a wardrobe of stylish, unique clothing at a cost half that you would find on the high street!

The Fashion & Design workshop

The Fashion & Design workshop covers a lot of scope on this glamorous industry. The Workshop is very practical and hands-on giving everyone the opportunity to "create", whilst at the same time offering helpful advice on design and how to wear today's fashion.

Participants can try T-shirt customizing, bring their own jeans to be re-worked, create accessories from scratch, use various fabrics and art materials, cut and slash, sew and paint - the list goes on, your imagination is your only limit! Our tutor will advise the group on Fashion do's and don'ts, different ways to wear things, advice on re-vamping your wardrobe at no-cost and will take the group through the latest up and coming fashion with use of magazines and resources. Our experienced tutor will help to bring your designs to life with her skills and knowledge and by working with templates to create fashion illustrations and designs. The workshop finishes with a fun catwalk modeling the clothes and accessories you've created.

As well as teaching and involving your group with a new fun skill, participants of this workshop go away with their own piece of work. This can be anything from a modified pair of jeans, a re-conditioned top to some funky accessories. Some students make gift ideas or plan to sell their work to family and friends. Fashion as a business venture is an idea that can be helped and explored on this workshop.

Principal purpose:

• Give people an introduction to Fashion and Design and explore their hidden creativity in this field, bringing to life their ideas and helping them create them using raw materials

• Putting on a catwalk show to model all the clothes and accessories the group has created in the Workshop

All participants will have the opportunity to:

• Have practical involvement in the workshop and have their ideas developed and channelled into a finished product

Certified qualification

Top Dog Certificate of Achievement in FASHION & DESIGN

All of our workshops are accredited with a certificate that all partakers can take away with them at the end as proof of their participation and to mark their achievement in learning a new skill.

Evidence of participation

Many youth schemes require evidence of learners' participation and achievements in wider learning projects to contribute to the young persons file or CV. Top Dog support this by providing other supporting evidence of participation in addition to the Top Dog Certificate of Achievement. Available for this workshop are:

• Photos of the workshop in-action and the finished "creations" can be taken. Some of these will be up-loaded on to the website gallery for public exhibition. Copies of photos of your workshop can be e-mailed to you if you contact us via the website.
• The "original" work (garment/accessory) that has been created during your workshop is yours to keep and the best proof of the new skills learnt!
• Records of attendance and evaluation/feedback forms are completed by all participants
